Autism Charities

Below are some charities and organisations who work to help better the lives of Autistic people. Some you may know, some you may not. I am not giving personal testimonies on them, nor am I saying one is the best and I am not paid to promote in anyway. They are merely listed to help you with finding other answers should you need it. Links will open in a new window.

National Autistic Society

The NAS is the leading Autism charity in the UK. They look at supporting and raising awareness about Autism for people of all ages, not just young people. Their aim is raising awareness and building up a stronger understanding for everyone. In 2016 they produced a video which was on national TV as a way to explain what sensory overload is for Autistic people and you can see the video here:

Autism Education Trust

The AET is supported by the Department for Education and aims to support young people, parents and teachers whilst young people are in education. There is also a section on post-16 support. I highly recommend their website as it gives you more guidance on how you (and what you can expect the school to do) to support your child/yourself. There are several resources that you can download from their site which will help work towards the young person reaching their full potential.
